South American Farming
South America, despite its colonial past still maintains some of the most untainted fertile and lush ecosystems in the world. It is no wonder many small-scale farmers are still cultivating its rich pastures and many families hold onto their cultural roots, farming the land to feed themselves and supporting their local community markets.
On my travels through the Latin continent I met many kind and generous farmers who welcomed me with open arms and they left a lasting impression on me. Being a foreigner and knowing only a little Spanish, I was surprised and comforted by their willingness to invite me onto their farms to try their local produce and educate me about the livestock and their methods of farming.
The portraits I have photographed are an attempt to capture the essence of simple living and the harmonious connection these farmers have with the land.
